Designer Profile: George Nelson

George Nelson Bio:
George Nelson, born in Connecticut in 1908, travelled through Europe in the 1930s after completing a degree in architecture at Yale. With the purpose of writing articles for Pencil Points, Nelson had the privilege of interviewing a number of the modernist pioneers and founding fathers of the modernist architecture movement such as Charles Eames and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Later in life he found himself collaborating with these same designers, as Nelson's work gained worldwide recognition for his innovative designs. Turning full circle, Nelson in 1972 became the design director at Herman Miller, and being such a prominent figure in American design was able to convince the likes of Noguchi, Eames and Girard to also work for Herman Miler.
