The womb chair & ottoman was originally designed by Eero Saarinen in 1948. Known to be Hugh Hefner's favourite chair (Hefner was pictured with the very first ed of Playboy sitting in the Womb chair), the Womb Chair is intended to facilitate a relaxed seating posture, and so derives its name from the sense of security felt while relaxing in it.
